Atlanta is the capital and most populated city in Georgia. It is one of the fastest growing metropolitan areas in the United States with a population of over 500,000.

Atlanta has one of the largest concentrations of Fortune 500 companies, and is known as a top business and transportation center. Companies such as, the Coca-Cola Company, Home Depot , AT&T Mobility, Delta Air Lines, , and UPS all make this state their home. In fact, more than ¾ of the Fortune 1000 companies have offices in the metropolitan area.

The largest employer in the city is Delta Air Lines, operating one of the world’s largest airline hubs (Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport combined with competing carrier AirTran Airways)
Economically speaking, Atlanta has quite a large financial sector. Companies such as SunTrust Banks, has its home office in downtown. There is also a district headquarters for the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta amongst others.

Other industries such as cable television became very popular starting with Ted Turner’s creation of the Turner Broadcasting System in Atlanta. He later established the Cable News Network, Cartoon Network, Boomerang, TNT, CNN International, Turner South, , CNN en Español, CNN Headline News, and others.Then of course there is Cox Communications, headquartered in unincorporated DeKalb County, which is one of the largest cable television service providers in the United States.
